چکیده

We have developed a simple solid–vapor approach for controlled growth of the tetraleg ZnO nanostructure at high yield. The length of the tetraleg is 2–3 mm and the edge size of its centering nucleus is 70–200 nm. Our electron microscopy study gives the first direct evidence about the existence of the octahedral multiple twin nucleus, which is confirmed to be responsible for the formation of the tetraleg ZnO nanostructure. The tetraleg ZnO nanostructure is likely to be a candidate as building blocks for contructing photonic crystals. q 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved. PACS: 79.60.Jv; 36.40.2c; 61.46.tw

Sn doping induced enhancement in the activity of ZnO nanostructures against antibiotic resistant S. aureus bacteria

Highly ionic metal oxide nanostructures are attractive, not only for their physiochemical properties but also for antibacterial activity. Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures are known to have inhibitory activity against many pathogens but very little is known about doping effects on it. The antibacterial activity of undoped ZnO and tin (Sn) doped ZnO nanostructures synthesized by a simple, versatil...

Habit-modifying additives and their morphological consequences on photoluminescence and glucose sensing properties of ZnO nanostructures, grown via aqueous chemical synthesis

Generally, the anisotropic shape of inorganic nano-crystal can be influenced by one or more of different parameters i.e. kinetic energy barrier, temperature, time, and the nature of the capping molecules. Here, different surfactants acting as capping molecules were used to assist the aqueous chemical growth of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures on Au coated glass substrates. The morphology, crysta...

Enhanced Ethanol Gas Sensing Properties of SnO2-Core/ZnO-Shell Nanostructures

An inexpensive single-step carbon-assisted thermal evaporation method for the growth of SnO2-core/ZnO-shell nanostructures is described, and the ethanol sensing properties are presented. The structure and phases of the grown nanostructures are investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. XRD a...

Incorporation of Sb in ZnO nanostructures through hydrothermal process.

Incorporation of dopants in optoelectronic semiconductor nanostructures has been a matter of great interest in recent times. While such doping has been performed almost routinely using physical methods, use of low-cost chemical techniques for that purpose is still rare. We incorporated antimony in zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures through a low temperature hydrothermal method. In as-grown nanostr...

Microwave-assisted Decomposition of two Simple Zinc(II) Schiff Base Complexes: A Facile and Fast Route to Synthesize ZnO Nanostructures

ZnO nanorods and nanoparticles have been easily prepared via the decomposition of two simple Schiff base zinc (II) complexes, namely (N,N'–disalicylalethylenediamine)zince(II) and (N,N'–disalicylalphenylenediamine)zince(II) under microwave irradiation. The decomposition products of the complexes were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX and UV-visible spectroscopy.  FT-IR, XRD and EDX results ...
